Celebrate the Tour de France at Côte Brasserie

The Tour de France is here and we are very excited about the next month of cycling.

The French national multi-day bicycle stage race kicks off from Saturday 1 to Sunday 23 July 2017. This year’s Tour will be made up of 21 stages and cover a total distance of 3,540 kilometres.

Beginning in Düsseldorf, the riders will start with an individual time trial before heading towards a mix of surfaces to make the race as demanding as can be.

Made up of nine flat stages, five hilly stages, five mountain stages and two individual time trials with just two rest days, the 104th Tour de France is set to be as exciting as ever.

History of the Tour de France

The first ever Tour de France began in 1903, running from 31 May to 5 July, beginning and ending in Paris with stops in Lyon, Marseille, Bordeaux and Nantes. The gruelling race was won by Maurice Garin.

The 2017 Tour

This year, the Tour, which sees cyclists battling it out for the yellow jersey, sees the inclusion of Düsseldorf and also passes through Belgium and Luxembourg on its way to France.

After heading into France, the route heads south and then east, passing breathtaking views of the Alps and neighbouring towns.

Riders will be exposed to many historical landmarks, including Charles de Gaulle’s home village of Colombey-les-Deux-Eglises, Paris’s Grand Palais and Montgeron, where the Tour originated.

Great Britain’s Chris Froome won the Tour last year on behalf of Team Sky and he’s set to return this year, alongside Mark Cavendish, to defend his title.
